HKL License Policy for Commercial Users

We plan to gradually phase out the HKL package, and we encourage all users to acquire the HKL-2000 software instead.

Commercial users interested in obtaining the HKL license may contact us at hkl@hkl-xray.com to request a quotation and a commercial license agreement. Our standard license agreement is intended for those users, who do not provide data reduction services.

A license must be completed before the license key file: access key can be obtained.

The number of computers, which may run the software is limited to 10 and they should be in one location (campus).

During the first year from the license activation, the license is extended to include the 'HKL Synchrotron License' at no additional cost. The HKL Synchrotron License covers

  1. the use of the HKL software to reduce data collected at any synchrotron beam line provided that data format is recognized by the SOFTWARE. In particular, data from high performance detectors (the read-out time faster than 30 seconds), like ADSC Quantum-4, Quantum-210, and Quantum-315.
  2. the use of the HKL package during the experiment at any synchrotron beam line, where the HKL SOFTWARE is installed.

Upgrades are provided free of charge for a period of one (1) year from the activation of the permanent license. Upgrades also cover detector formats at synchrotron facilities and new formats, which may have emerged during the initial one year period, provided that support for these formats has been added.

Further upgrades

HKL Package  Documentation, and other services may be obtained under a service contract offered by HKL to the commercial users. A service contract is per site and is valid for all detectors that have previous license for the SOFTWARE. The License extensions (a) and (b) require a yearly service contract Level III. Given the diverse nature of both the type and number of detectors, the conditions for the inclusion of the new detectors to the service contract will be defined in the individual service contract agreement. The current upgrade policy is summarized on page "Upgrades for the Commercial Companies".
